What to get your Valentine? Regardless of his or her age, we have the answer. Besides cards, we have children’s books such as Valentine by Carol Carrick, the story of a lamb born on Valentine’s, and books for adults, including the Julia Spencer-Fleming series that mixes mystery with romance. And don’t forget the Victorian metal heart ornaments with messages “forever” or “forget me not.” Don’t wait until the last minute because The Book Store will be closed for Diocesan Council, Thursday, Feb. 9 through Saturday, Feb. 11.

The Book Store has CDs featuring the Fairfax Choral Society and Orchestra, the Pacific Chorale, the Cathedral Singers and Douglas Warland Singers performing sacred and secular carols from 14^th century England to 21^st century America. “Toffee to Go” is back at the Book Store in time for Christmas. The Dark Chocolate Pecan Toffee is wrapped in its own special holiday box and tied with a red ribbon. HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE AND ARTIST FAIR

Dec. 3 from 10 to noon is the Parish Book Store’s annual Holiday Open House and Artist Fair, featuring local artisans Constance Fahey and Besty DiJulio and their works. Talk with Fahey about her art and have DiJulio sign a copy of her book, The Blooming Platter Cookbook, which offers vegan recipes to celebrate the seasons. Peruse the Advent calendars, Christmas cards and decorations, and crèches. Choose a book for a child from our Reading Angel Tree. And find the perfect gift that reflects the spirit of the season. The Holiday Open House continues on Dec. 4 after services.

Samples of Fahey’s art are in the Book Store, and we have added DiJulio’s book, The Blooming Platter Cookbook, which she will be signing. The book offers vegan recipes to celebrate the seasons. The 175 recipes span regional American favorites as well as global cuisines. Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life by James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts recounts the story of Rafe Khatchadorian, sixth grader “incarcerated” at Hills Village Middle School. Meet the diabolical English teacher called the Dragon Lady and learn about Operation RAFE (Rules Aren’t For Everyone). A MARKED HEART

New merchandise is arriving at the Parish Book Store. Among the items is David George Ball’s memoir A Marked Heart which recounts his life’s journey of faith and public service. While a scholarship student at Yale, Ball met Martin Luther King, Jr. whom he credits with changing the course of his life. Ball, now a parishioner at Bruton Parish, served as assistant secretary of labor under President George H.W. Bush where he championed the 401(k) plan so that workers who changed jobs could have the means available to create their own retirement accounts.
